Idea of the Run
Since 2015, every year in June Białystok hosted the Electrum Ekiden marathon relay race. Teams of 6 competed in a race to cover the distance of 42.195 km.
This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are unfortunately unable to meet at a racetrack. However, we are not giving up! We want to run and we want to help others! That’s why, this year we will organise the race in a virtual form. Yet, we can guarantee that emotions will be for real. You will be able to run virtually anywhere in the world! Pick your own start and finish wherever you wish.
We stick to the main rule, though. Each team has to cover the distance of a marathon. It will be divided into the following legs: 7.2 km + 10 km + 10 km + 5 km + 5 km + 5 km = 42.2 km. Although the distance of a marathon is 42.195 km, for this virtual race we have decided to use the distance of 42.2 km for the sake of clarity.
Since there are no time limits, the Electrum Ekiden Virtual Race is a perfect challenge for all running enthusiasts, beginners and more advanced ones alike, and even for those who would like to run/walk or powerwalk the distance.
Apart from being a sporting event, the relay is also a splendid opportunity to help the “Pomóż Im” Foundation. We will donate 50 PLN to the Children’s’ Hospice for every team which takes part in the Race. Teams are free to raise funds themselves and donate larger amounts to this charity.
